Where the Flowers Bloom

by Mya Watson-Blake

I decided I need more tattoos

So her name is Delilah

And she represents mental health awareness

The flowers in her head signify the ones in my own

As they decay and bloom on command without any sense of control

On days that are better than not

On days that are harder to bare

Her wide, parted lips

Represent my own

But her tattooed mouth

Can’t speak the thoughts in my mind

Only silence can come from her margins

She can only express the imagination in my head

Her image on my brown skin is priceless

But not to the artist who inked her design

Who marked her everlasting imprint onto me like the art that she is

She will live with me forever

And she will always remind me of me
